The Pincoya

  

In a single woman  rests the luck of the fishermen of the island of Chiloé. It is a well-known siren as The Pincoya whose mission is deeply bound to the femaleness: to fecundate all the alive beings of the sea. This way, the abundance or shortage of fish and shellfish will depend on their kindness. When the Pincoya leaves the depths of the sea every morning and its dance begins with the extended arms looking to the sea, it corresponds to the announcement that the fishing will be abundant. On the contrary, if she dances in address to the coast it means that the fish will go away. It is supposed that this happens when the siren has estimated necessary to drag the wealth of the sea toward other needier areas.  

So that the fishermen are favored by the Pincoya they should maintain a positive, cheerful attitude and of companionship. Also, they should rotate the places where fish, since the extraction abuse in oneself place a reason of anger it is considered for the Pincoya who decides to abandon that area leaving it sterile.  

Another version that relates it with a nymph of hair of gold that made emerge from the bottom of the sea a trunk of solid gold on which combed its hair by means of its whistles also exists and the one that brought prosperity and abundance to the costs. During the nights it intoned loving songs that bewitched to who listened to them.  

 All went in search of the Pincoya to request him favors, but suddenly it disappeared of the place. It is said that it was stolen to impregnate from good fortune to new costs.
